One of the greatest contributions to occupant safety in a collision is the ability of the platform to dissipate impact energy. The 2007 Eclipse Spyder platform is reinforced in key locations using high-strength steel. Then additional cross members in the dash area and cabin floor help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision. All this is then reinforced with side sills, along with front and rear sub-frame components, which minimize deformation due to an offset front impact.
In addition to the advanced platform and sub-frames, the Eclipse Spyder offers advanced front airbags and front seat-mounted side-impact airbags. Sensors respond to the force of an impact and to the driver's seat position (and passenger seat occupant weight) to vary the rate of airbag deployment and help provide a more accurate response.
